Sizing and price guideline

Pricing for my custom hand-tufted rugs depends on:

1) Size of the rug;

2) Intricacy of the design;

3) Number of colours used;

Any shape rug is possible - round / square / rectangular / abstract / scallopped border etc.

Below are some common sizes:

Doormat Size Rugs:

75x50cm, 80x55cm (standard doormat sizes)

100x70cm (larger doormat size) 

Round Rugs:

80cm, 100cm, 130cm, 150cm 

Large Area Rugs:

180x140cm, 200x130cm, 240x150cm 

Please note, 240x150cm is the largest size I do.

The average lead time for custom rug commissions is about 3 weeks, depending on my capacity.

This time accounts for the care and attention to detail that goes into every piece. The specific lead time for your order will be communicated to you.

What is the care guide for hand-tufted rugs?

Cleaning guide:

  • Your hand-tufted rug is not machine washable - do not submerge in water.
  • Vacuum your rug at least once a week.
  • Spot clean spills immediately with a damp cloth and mild detergent.
  • Use a dry carpet cleaning powder when you'd like to give your rug a deeper clean - recommended once a month, this depends on its placement and foot traffic.

Placement of your rug:

  • Your hand-tufted rug is for indoor use only.
  • Keep out of direct sunlight to maintain vibrancy of colours.
  • Your hand-tufted rug is not suitable as a shower mat in a wet/humid environment such as the bathroom.
  • Refrain from walking over your rug with shoes, if it is in a place with lots of foot traffic, vacuum daily to remove dirt build-up.

From design conceptualisation based on your brief, to site visits and personalised colour swatches, to hand-tufting your rug with the highest attention to detail, the experience is thoughtful and tailored from start to finish. The end result is a luxurious, one-of-a-kind hand-tufted rug that is truly unique and made to belong in your space.

How durable are hand-tufted rugs?

Our hand-tufted rugs are finished with care using a durable (eco-friendly, water-based and low-VOC) glue that secures the fibres. However, the longevity of your rug depends on how you care for and maintain your rug.

My most important maintenance tips are vacuuming your rug regularly (at least once a week) to avoid dirt build-up, not walking on your rug with shoes if possible, and to avoid placing your rug in direct sunlight.

Can I use my hand-tufted rug outdoors?

No - homely. hand-tufted rugs are suitable for indoor use only.

How long does it take to make a custom hand-tufted rug?

The average lead time for custom rugs is 3-4 weeks - this depends on my capacity and the size of your rug.

I have no idea what design or colours I want - can you help with this process?

Of course! If you are in Cape Town, I'm happy to do a site visit and consult you on the perfect design, colours and size of rug for your space. We can also do this virtually through a shared mood board.
